The Lexington Legends named Keith Elkins as their play-by-play announcer on Thursday as well as director of broadcasting and media relations.

Elkins, a former Lexington television sports reporter and anchor and public relations officer at the University of Kentucky and Transylvania University, will be broadcasting on the largest radio network in minor-league baseball. Legends games are heard on flagship station WLXG in Lexington and 34 affiliates across the state. Elkins worked part-time on Legends broadcasts in 2008.

"We are excited to have a longtime Lexington resident, who is already connected with our fans, represent our team on air," Legends President Alan Stein said.

Elkins replaces Rob Gidel, who served as the Legends play-by-play announcer for one year before moving on to a broadcasting position at the University of Akron. Larry Glover was the voice of the Legends for the franchise's first seven seasons.

The Lexington Legends were held hitless for five innings Monday night at Applebee's Park, but they broke through with two hits and a run in the sixth and added two runs in the eighth to beat Lake County 3-2 and end the Captains' five-game winning streak.

Captains starter Ryan Morris extended his hitless streak to 11 innings before leaving after the fifth. In his previous start he went six hitless innings but, like last night, he exited because of a pitch count. Morris walked two and struck out seven.

The Legends got on the board in the sixth against reliever Josh Judy when Jonathan Fixler singled home Eric Taylor to tie the game 1-1.
The Captains scored a run in the seventh to retake the lead, but the Legends won it in the eighth.

The Lexington Legends' return to Applebee's Park after a 6-2 road trip was less than triumphant. The Lake County Captains crushed the home team 12-3.
The Captains got off to a quick start, scoring three runs off Lexington starter Robert Leonhardt in the top of the first inning. After that, the rout was on.

Leonhardt gave up nine hits and seven runs before getting pulled in the top of the fifth. Lake County finished with 15 hits.
